The Boy & The Bride Christmas Video

Hello Friends!

For those of you who don't know, my husband and I recently started a band called "The Boy & The Bride". I cannot tell you how much fun it has been to get to be a part of this project with my best friend:) We've been having a BLAST and yesterday we released our third song/music video on YouTube! We covered the song, "Baby, It's Cold Outside" for Christmas. That song has been covered about a million times, so we tried to change it up a bit to make it our own. Below is the link...enjoy!:)

P.S. If you could help us spread the word about our video, that would be just super cool of you. Like super duper cool of you. (Is "duper" even a word?)

I hope everyone has a very MERRY Christmas!!

First Christmas as a Mrs.

This Christmas is extra special, because it's Brandon's and my first Christmas being married! To start out this holiday season, Brandon and I were so blessed to win an 8 foot Christmas tree in a contest. I NEVER win drawings, so I was excited:D Here are some pictures of us at the tree lot picking out our tree. It was an adventure getting that thing home and up a flight of stairs (the branches were painfully pokey).

I've had a blast decorating our home and trying to make it feel Christmassy. Below are some pictures of the decorating I've been up to! I've also been doing lots of baking lately and am excited to do lots more during this holiday season! I just love CHRISTMAS.

Getting our first Christmas tree.

Making the final decision...

We found a winner! It's preeettyyy.

It was an interesting drive home. It went a little something like this... Brandon: "I think it's sliding! IS IT SLIDING?!?" ME: "I don't think so. I think we're ok." Brandon: "Oh no, there's a big hill coming up!!!" Me: "AHH!! I think it's sliding! It's most definitely sliding!" Brandon: "AHHH!!!" Me: "AHHH!!!"

Putting the lights on!

All finished!

A bow I made for our tree topper.

An ornament we got on our honeymoon!

More decorations...

The kitchen table.

My first attempt at a fancy bow.

The coffee table.

Help A Great Cause!!!

Hey Friends!

My husband and I have an awesome opportunity to help out with a really great project! I've attached 2 documents below that explain exactly what the project is about. Please take a look at them and see how you might can help!

We're very passionate about what the organizations, Free for Life International and Both Hands, are doing. I have only recently become aware of all the sex trafficking going on around the world (even in our own city). It is absolutely gut-wrenching to hear the stories of these precious girls being treated as if they are worth nothing. Through this project we also have the opportunity to help widows around our area! James 1:27 tells us to look after orphans and widows and that is what the organization, Both Hands is all about.

" 'For I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited Me in, I needed clothes and you clothed Me, I was sick and you looked after Me, I was in prison and you came to visit Me.' Then the righteous will answer Him, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You something to drink? When did we see You sick or in prison and visit You?' The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for Me.' " -Matthew 25:35-40

This is such an awesome opportunity to help out both sex trafficking victims and widows at the same time! It's so easy to get caught up in our own little lives and we forget to look around at all of the needs of this world. God shows us ways to join Him in His work. How cool is it that He wants to use US?!

Please let me know if you would like to help out by donating to help raise money for shelters for these sex trafficking victims. The biggest need in helping the girls is money. Without money to provide a safe place for them to stay, for clothes, and food, they end up back out on the streets. Let's do everything we can to help restore these girls' lives!

Pray how God wants you to respond. Thank you SO much for taking the time to read this!

My Heart About Halloween

So many people get excited about October 31st. Both Christians and Non-Christians look forward to the Halloween holiday. God has put it on my heart to share with you how He’s convicted me about this celebration. Many people try to justify Halloween by saying “It’s just a fun day to dress up and eat lots of candy.” The problem is... that’s not at all what it is. This pagan holiday was also known as “The Festival of the Dead”. Halloween is derived from nothing but pure darkness. If you’ve never researched the holiday, I encourage you to! Read about how everything from dressing up, to trick-or-treating, to carving pumpkins all got started. This day is represented by things like witches, ghosts, spirits, etc. None of these things are of the Lord. No matter how people try to justify it, it is what it is. Why do Christians desire to be part of such an ungodly celebration? Witchcraft practitioners declare October 31st as the most conductive time to practice their arts. Witchcraft is an abomination to God. It really doesn’t take much to look around and see that everything Halloween is about is completely separated from God and what He’s all about. Halloween cannot be justified or redeemed. Satan loves this day and he loves to see Christians participate. Let’s not give that to him!

Here are a few origins of halloween customs:
Costumes: Celts wore masks when they left their homes after dark to avoid being recognized by ghosts who might mistake them for fellow spirits.  “Guisers” dressed to impersonate the returning dead, singing and dancing to keep evil spirits away.
Trick-or-treating: Prior to the Protestant Reformation, women and girls went “souling”, visiting houses and begging for “soul cakes” (each cake eaten would represent a soul being freed). Seventeenth-century Irish peasants went door to door asking for donations for a feast to honor the Lord of the Dead.
Jack-o’-lanterns: In Britain, people hollowed out turnips and pumpkins and placed candles inside them to make food offerings to the dead. They were then posted outside homes to keep away evil spirits.
Black cats: (Black cats are a popular Halloween decoration.) Celts believed that bad spirits would take the form of cats and other animals on the night of Oct. 31st.
Halloween has absolutely NOTHING to do with Jesus Christ. And He wants nothing to do with it. Shouldn’t us, Christians, want NOTHING to do with it? When Christians go to Halloween parties, dress up, etc. and see it as something harmless, they are letting the enemy deceive them. This holiday cannot be made into something innocent. Those who say, “We just do this for fun...it’s not like we practice witchcraft or anything...” That which represents Satan cannot be handled “for fun”. The Bible instructs us to have nothing to do with the deeds of darkness. When that’s exactly what Halloween is, why would we want anything to do with it? God unmasks Halloween and sees it for exactly what it is, so we shouldn’t try to white-wash it and declare it something good. Although people celebrate the holiday as if it’s nothing but innocent fun... its traditions, customs, and practices are rooted in a far darker and far more demonic place than they realize.
Deuteronomy 18:10-11 says, “Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead.” If you research the origin of Halloween, you’ll see that all of these things are what make Halloween what it is.
Every year, I absolutely dread October 31st. I hate the feeling I have all day just knowing what the day is all about and all the evil that goes on during this day. I’m always ready for the day to end. But this year I want to use the day to pray, to be a witness, and to be a light during such a dark time. I truly believe this holiday is in no way honoring to God. Let’s turn our eyes away from what this world has to offer and fix our eyes on Jesus! Let’s not choose to participate in anything that’s not of Him! Anyway....that’s my heart about Halloween.

My Latest Hobby: DECORATING!

Welcome to "The Brash Shack"!

One of my favorite purchases recently is this canopy for our bed! It's magical.

Our headboard was brown and I painted it cream to match the decor.

My uncle made those posts and my aunt painted them! We have one on each side of the bed.

Lace curtains!

Favorite mirror.

Brandon's black coffee table that I painted.

This end table was a thrift find!

Bed skirts that I turned into curtains.

Some wedding memories in the living room.

Lots of thrift finds in there.

A coat rack that I turned into a hat/belt/scarf rack.

Painted this mirror and made that arrangement for the dining room.

Picture hanging in the kitchen.

Some decor above the kitchen cabinets.

Bathroom.

It's been quite a challenge trying to make an apartment feel less like an apartment and more homey. However, I've enjoyed the challenge:) There is still a lot to be done, but here are some pictures of the decorating I've been up to! As you can see, I'm a big fan of the "Shabby Chic" look. It's my faaaaave! (My poor husband...)
