We had our friends over for the season premiere of "The Bachelorette" and I made nachos, fruit smoothies, and funfetti cake mix cookies!
This is the first meal I cooked after we got married (we didn't have a kitchen table yet, so we had to eat our meals on the coffee table): Shrimp cocktail, baked squash and zucchini, a garden salad, and french bread.
Pasta with creamed asparagus.
A dessert called "dirt".
Homemade pizza.
We had friends over for chili and chocolate fondue!
Peach cream pie.
We had my family over for Mexican food: Chicken enchiladas, Mexican rice, a Mexican salad, and brownies and ice cream for dessert!
Threw an ice cream party for Brittany's birthday!
One of my favorite joys in life is hosting get-togethers at my home. I love getting our place all fixed up, baking some goodies, and having people over to share it with. The weird thing is, I never cooked before I got married. My mom was worried for Brandon (we all were). I had no clue what I was going to do, but letting my husband starve was just not an option... I HAD to learn how to cook! I also made a promise to Brandon in my vows on our wedding day that I'd learn to cook for him, so there was no way out of it. I got small panic attacks from hearing the words "kitchen" and "cooking". Before I got married I was given a recipe shower. All of the women that came brought their favorite recipes or recipe books to help out a girl in need. People heard my urgent cry for help and I began getting recipes from family and friends in the mail. Ever since then, I've collected many recipes and have been trying them out over these past 4 months of being married. I get really nervous before trying out a new recipe and normally have to pray before I start cooking. Thankfully, there hasn't been a sickness or death from the partaking of my food. I also have yet to burn a house down! I see this all as progress. Brandon and I have had people over to eat almost every week that we've been in town since we've been married. I never thought the day would come that I would actually want to BLESS people with my cooking! Whaaaat?!?!?! And never in a MILLION YEARS would I have thought I would ever admit to ENJOYING cooking. Now I catch myself watching cooking shows, searching for fun new recipes and cooking tips, and WANTING to get in the kitchen to bake. Who am I?!
I'm still pretty clueless in the kitchen and have a long way to go before being considered a cook, but I won't give up! I won't! I'm here to encourage all of you non-cooking wives out there who think the kitchen is your enemy... if I can do it ANYONE can. Guuuurrrrl, get in that kitchen! Your husband likes to eat, FEED THE MAN.
Above are pictures of some get-togethers we've had and also some different dishes I've made over the past few months!
Such cute pictures! :) Your home looks so welcoming!
